5K Pace Calculator
Work out the pace you need for a 5K goal time, or the pace of a 5K you have already run. The 5K is 5 km (3.107 mi), so a 25:00 finish is 25:00 ÷ 5 km = 5:00/km, which is 8:03/mi; a sub-20 needs about 3:59/km (6:26/mi). Pick "Solve for" Pace, enter your goal time and 5 km, and choose km or mi to see pace per km and per mile with even splits. Because the 5K is a great fitness benchmark, the built-in Riegel predictor also projects your 5K time out to 10K, half-marathon and marathon (T2 = T1 × (D2/D1)^1.06) — handy for planning, though the longer projections get optimistic and assume you train for the distance. This is a fitness estimate, not a guaranteed race time.
5K = 5 km (3.107 mi); pace = time ÷ 5 km
- Example: 25:00 5K → 5:00/km ≈ 8:03/mi; 20:00 → 3:59/km ≈ 6:26/mi
- Riegel projects the 5K out to 10K / half / marathon
Frequently asked questions
What pace is a 25-minute 5K?
A 25:00 5K is 25:00 ÷ 5 km = 5:00 per km, which is about 8:03 per mile. To break 25:00 you need to hold just under that pace — roughly 4:59/km or faster — evenly across the 5 km.
What marathon time does my 5K predict?
Using Riegel, a 25:00 5K projects to about a 3:59 marathon and a 20:00 5K to roughly 3:12 — but these long projections are optimistic. A 5K is a poor predictor of marathon endurance on its own, so use the number as a ceiling that assumes full marathon training, not a realistic first-marathon target.
